December 2017 Intentions | Reflections & Goals

Reflections:

  • I finalized my word/phrase for 2018 -- "Fearless Visibility" Shout out to Megan Minns because before I saw her post, I was going to use "Stop Hiding." This new phrase is so much better.
  • Even though I don't feel like I've had an active 2017 (as far as being on social and posting recipes), it was pretty dope to be featured in The New York Times on November 28th.
  • I got a gig that has me out of the house five days a week. It's not bad at all!
  • It was amazing to smash my income goals for November! I'm still blown away by how a little bit of intention went a long way for my finances in November.

Intentions for December 2017:

  • Exercise...even if for 20 minutes -- Even though I've been working on eating better, I know the 20 lbs will come off faster if I incorporate cardio and weight training. PLUS, the exercise will work wonders for my mental health.
  • Get clear about how I will make 2018 my year of "Fearless Visibility"

How I Did on Consistency Goals for November 2017:

*Upload at least ONE video on my main YouTube channel - NOPE. I have a confession to make. I've been away from YouTube for over four months, and every time I plan to go back, I get stuck in the "my content isn't good enough" nonsense. The YouTube bar has been set high, and I just don't think my videos fit in. *sigh* It's silly...I know.

*Upload a weekly podcast episode (five for the month) - NOPE. I did two episodes. I refuse to beat myself up though. I started a new gig that took a lot of time. Plus, I'm excited to have several episodes ready for December.

Consistency Goals for December 2017:

I decided not to set any this month. Instead, I will spend time reflecting and planning for the new year.

November 2017 Intentions

black-woman-hand-on-laptop-createherstock.jpg

It's been a while since I wrote my last Intentions post. *sigh*

Even though I don't always complete my monthly goals, I will say writing these posts does give me a sense of accountability.

Also, I want to be more transparent about my business experiences to track my growth and inspire others to chase their dreams.

Reflections:

*A Major Shift In Our Family -- If you don't already know, I have three sons - 16, 14 & 12. Being a mom of teenagers has been the hardest thing I've ever had to do. The level of stress over the last 1 1/2 has been unreal. One of the reasons life has been all over the place for me is because my older sons recently moved to Texas to live with their dad. This situation has been a hard transition for my family, but I know this change is best for the boys.

*I Still Don't Know What the Hell I'm Doing -- After all these years, I still haven't figured out what I can do to really serve people and make a consistent monthly income from my businesses.

I'm actually quite embarrassed to admit this out loud, but hey, the first step is admitting there's a problem, right?

Intentions for November 2017:

*Set an income goal for the month -- I started tracking my income back in July and being intentional did allow me to make more money. I got off track last month and saw that my income was the lowest that it has been in a while -- there's def a correlation, so I will start tracking again.

*Finalize My "Word/Theme" for 2018 -- My word for 2017 is Execution. Even though there's so much more I want to do, I feel as though I took way more action this year. I released two products on Brown Vegan, two products on Biz Life, did a few speaking engagements, cooking demos (my first was this year!) and went on TV.

*Continue to work on my weight loss journey -- One of my 2017 goals was to lose 20 lbs. Guess what happened tho? I gained ten mo' pounds! I'm now a whopping 172.4 lbs.

I started over again and feel positive that I will reach this goal in 2018 -- What I plan to do more of? Manage stress, cut down on processed foods, work as an accountable partner with Eric (he wants to lose 20 lbs too).

*Leave the damn house -- As someone who works from home, it's very easy for me not to leave the house very often. I will make sure to get out as least once a week -- even if it's just for a 30-minute walk or a dinner date with Eric.  I know leaving the house more will help with my anxiety and depression too.

Consistency Goals for February:

I'm pretty nervous to set consistency goals, because I don't usually follow through on everything I write.

So I will keep it short and sweet...

*Upload at least ONE video on my main YouTube channel - I can't believe it has been three months since my last video! I just decided to record and upload a BBQ tofu video. Wish me luck!

*Upload a weekly podcast episode (five for the month) -- there's no excuse for not finishing this because I have all the interviews recorded!

May 2017 Intentions

I looked at my post from December 2016 to see how I was doing on leaving behind things that no longer serve me and moving forward to greatness, and realized I hadn't posted an update in a while.

So here goes...

Intentions & Reflections:

Build & Serve -- My focus for May is to work on growing my audience (reaching 40K YouTube subscribers -- currently at 39,733 and grow my email list by 200 people), provide quality content (on YouTube & the podcast) and focus on money-generating activities.

Mo'Money Mo' Money -- I set an income goal for the first time since February! I swear it's like the universe heard me right away because dope paid opportunities are falling right in my lap.

Digital Girl Going Offline -- One of the things I've embraced this year is the power of offline paid opportunities. Even though it can be very uncomfortable (and I don't feel like I know what the hell I'm doing lol), I love being able to connect and hug folks in person.

I did my first paid cooking demo in Baltimore back in March!

I also have speaking gigs at the Kansas City VegFest and Vegan Soul Fest coming up this summer.

Since I plan to work offline more, I've been thinking about the importance of having physical products to offer at events. I'm still not sure what I will offer...just that I need to figure it out.

Unplug -- My phone was acting crazy last month and shut down twice for several hours. I went from panic to bliss during those hours, and it reminded me just how important it is to unplug. This month I will let my battery go dead and then stay offline for several hours. I scroll social media way too much.

Intentions for May 2017:

  • Get a summer curriculum for the kids
  • Continue to add videos and PDFs to the Simple Side Hustle course (I need to finish this!!!)
  • Add a dedicated page to the Brown Vegan site to promote offline opportunities.
  • Write an email sales sequence for Zero to Vegan
  • Write an email sales sequence for Ready Set Go Vegan
  • Make a doctor's appointment

February 2017 Intentions

One of my mom's favorite sayings is, "time waits for no one."

She's right!

January was busy, exciting, exhausting and rewarding. I swear it feels like late April (not February) because of everything that happened.

Not only did I work hard on my Brown Vegan brand, I also shifted my focus to being consistent with this brand.

2017 is going to be about planting seeding and watering my soil.

I can feel it!

Reflections from the month:

  • I gave myself permission to not be perfect. I will work hard, but I have to put my ideas and products out if I want to improve. Also, I was okay this month with putting out 2 videos on my Brown Vegan YouTube channel that weren't heavily produced.
  • Genuine connections are everything -- I opened myself up to connect more and it feels amazing!
  • Focusing on one thing at time until completion is key to maximizing my productivity. I have to focus on one thing at time if I want to win!
  • I really need to hire someone to help with behind the scenes work.

Update on My Intentions for January 2017:

  • Pre-sale the hell out of Zero to Vegan DONE! Listen to my takeaways from that launch on this podcast episode.
  • Make therapy appointment NOT DONE
  • Take 2 days off from work during the last week of the month (sleep, catch up on shows and chill hard as hell) DONE

December 2016 Recap and Going Forward with 2017

So ummm, yeah.

See my last monthly intentions post here

I knew about 10 days into December that all of my plans for the month were out the window.

Instead, I spent that time reflecting and planning for 2017.

Christmas was nice. The kids are healthy. Eric is thriving in his business (he's still adjusting to self-employment) and I worked a ton on Zero to Vegan.

As a matter of fact, I finally launched Zero to Vegan!

Life is good.

What I Will Leave Behind in 2016

  • Only working when I feel "inspired" -- The truth is, I usually only feel inspired about 8 days out of the month. This is exactly why I don't get my work done. I will be disciplined and consistent.
  • Vague ass goals -- Instead of saying, "I will make 3 videos this month" I need to know what those videos will be and work on a plan to get it done.  I will make my monthly & weekly goals specific and actionable.

Going Forward

  • Schedule breaks from social and the internet (UNPLUGGING is good for the soul)
  • I refuse to be afraid to put myself out there! I've been doing this more by going live on Facebook & Instagram (I'm loving IG live the most).
  • Making real money from both businesses (so tired of scraping by) -- more disposable income to save, travel and give. I wrote down income goals and recalculated all of my expenses during my time off in December.
  • No more major work after October of each year -- I will use November to reflect and plan and December to celebrate, rest and reflect some more in the coming years.
  • More date nights with Eric and solo dates with the kids

Intentions for January 2017:

  • Pre-sale the hell out of Zero to Vegan (super excited to get this out!)
  • Make 1st therapy appointment
  • Take 2 days off from work during the last week of the month (sleep, catch up on shows and chill hard as hell)

Consistency goals for January:

  • Upload 4 YouTube videos (Small Grocery Haul, "Meaty" Lasagna,  Black Bean Spaghetti review, One Pot Weeknight Dinner)
  • 1 free workshop (4 Steps You Must Take to Go Vegan in 2017)
  • 2 podcast episodes (Where to Start & Jos interview)
  • Film "meaty" lasagna & What We Ate Today videos
